An overview of compatible ink cartridges
When considering the difference in price between Compatible and original Epson D92 ink cartridges and many other printers most people are left thinking – There must be something wrong with the compatible printer cartridges because they cost so much less. This is a common misconception and it not the reason why compatible printer ink cartridges are so much cheaper. The reason is for this is that compatible ink cartridges are made by third party companies who have no links to any printer manufacturers and they are much smaller companies with much lower overheads and can therefore sell alternative cartridges a lot cheaper than the big name OEM manufacturers. Compatible Epson ink cartridges offer the biggest savings over the equivalent OEM cartridges due to their design, Epson printers have the print head fixed to the printer carriage so the cartridges do not contain this expensive component and this means third party companies can make them very cheaply. The majority of Lexmark and HP printers have no print head, instead each cartridge contains an integrated print head and this make them expensive to manufacture. As a result third party companies can’t make and sell them at a price that is competitive to the OEM companies so they recycle empty OEM cartridges instead and re-brand them as their own. This process is known as remanufacturing and is quite labour intensive and it makes compatible ink cartridges for HP and Lexmark printers a little bit more expensive than from Epson but still offer good saving over the genuine OEM equivalents.
