Multifunction laser printing on a budget
Multifunction colour laser printers are something that have always been out of reach of the small business and home users but the Samsung CLX-2160 looks to have changed all that. Just because you can afford to buy it doesn’t necessary mean that you will be able for afford to run it on consumables. Samsung CLX-2160 toner cartridges are small than your average printer cartridges for a laser printer and they are reasonably priced. The real cost however can be found in the cost per page for which the CLX-2160 consumables work out at a cost of 2p per sheet for black printing and almost 10p per sheet when printing colour. This is quiet expensive for your average laser printer but not so much more that it make it unsuitable for the users it is designed for. There are also remanufactured Samsung toner cartridges available for the CLX-2160 and these can reduce the running cots of the printer considerable as they cost on average half the price of the original OEM products.
Print quality produced by the CLX-2160 is reasonable for both black and colour prints and the printing speed is good for black (16 pages per minute) but a little slower for colour (4ppm) but this is expected as the CLX-2160 uses a single imaging drum for each colour which is a reason why its so cheap. The CLX-2160 isn’t designed to do a high monthly print cycle and this is evident in a number of areas such as the paper tray which has a small 1500 sheet capacity. The overall build quality of the printer is very good and everything feels solid. Samsung has done a good job of packing so much into such a small chassis and offering it at a very reasonable price.
